Admissions

UTokyo offers a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and special and short-term programs in Japanese and English.

Undergraduate Admissions

UTokyo offers the Global Science Course (GSC), an all-English undergraduate transfer program, for students who are admitted into the 3rd year in the Faculty of Science after completing at least 2 years of undergraduate studies at universities outside of Japan. UTokyo is also launching a new faculty in September 2027, which offers a five-year, combined Bachelor’s/Master’s program, with instruction conducted entirely in English (see UTokyo College of Design below). In addition to these, students can apply for traditional undergraduate programs which are taught in Japanese and require a high level of Japanese language proficiency.

NOTE: Final admissions to Programs in English at Komaba (PEAK) has ended with the Fall 2026 enrollment, as UTokyo transitions its English program offerings.

Graduate Admissions

Students can enroll in our graduate programs either as regular students or as international research students (see the section on research students below). For degree programs offered in Japanese, please note that a high level of Japanese proficiency is required. UTokyo also offers a variety of graduate degree programs taught in English, some of which do not require Japanese proficiency.
